YES they do!  And its a beautiful thing!   My closet was not pretty, but now its darling in there and (more importantly) relieving to be able to shut the clutter out.  If you have a closet without doors or a unique walk in closet that needs a fresh look, try installing curtains.  These curtains transformed  the appearance of an average storage space giving it a clean and personalized touch.

Closet spaces usually aren’t the prettiest area in the place, especially mine.  This closet WAS usually a disaster area.  And in my house the walk in closet is a room that is open to part of my bathroom, and a lot of the time open to my bedroom as well.   I was sick and tired of looking at the clutter of the things.  I needed that space to be functioning properly as a short term storage and a clothing closet.  I also wanted it to be a pretty and relaxing space.  My kids and I absolutely love taking long hot baths, I also like to sit beneath the skylight in there listening to the rain (which happens often in the Great Northwest,  while pampering my self with mommy spa goodies.

I didn’t want to spend the dough on those closet organizers that break down after awhile of use….. or if you accidentally fall down on top of the organizer you just built with your rear end crashing through 3 levels of shoe keeper ply-board immediately after finally being able to get through assembling it!  :^o  whew…. Just sayin.  There was really only one cost effective idea that came to mind when I was looking for a solution to clean up the appearance of my closet.    :^/

So, I had been dreaming of adding curtains to hide the clutter unorganized look that is so hard to avoid in a stay and work at home mom’s closet.  Then when I shared this wish with my sister my, Tracelaine who hails at http://www.artoftheletter.blogspot.com/ , she “said lets make it happen!”  My big sister recommended sewing the curtains ourselves on my old Viking Huskvarna sewing machine that I had inherited from my kids Great Great Grandmother a few years earlier.   The machine was rarely used and in great condition, I am not that much of a seamstress but I have fond memories of watching and assisting my mom with projects and enjoying handmade clothing and dolls growing up.

I was nervous about attempting this unfamiliar project but SHE helped my wish come true!  Tracelaine is so creative and a perfectionist too, so I knew it would be gorgeous.  I just couldn’t wait.  We shopped the outdoor clearance rack at Fabric Depot (on the hottest day of my ever lovin life) and I was SO pleased with the adorable fabric we chose.  Then we headed to Ikea to get curtain rods.  I decided to go with a sliding track with clips to hold the fabric up in place.  After pre-washing and drying the fabric we started …my sister did just about every bit of sewing!  I was ironing and pinning, measuring, and installing the tracks.  It was exciting.  Then it just all fell into place.  And now with one sweep of my hand LIKE MAGIC, I can shut out the world of clutter in there!   Amazing.  I highly recommend closet curtains to anyone without closet doors to shut out the cluttered appearance.  It gives a rich and customized look that is unique and inspiring.

Note:  If you have toddlers or your children climb and hang like my monkeys you might have to wait a few years before installing and enjoying such attractive climbing apparatuses.   I thought my kids were finally old enough to know better, but my oldest at 8 years old recently pulled the track out of the ceiling horsing around with little brother and sister.  Now I know to use the screw in drywall anchors before  installing slider track onto any area without a stud to mount into.  The kids also love to hide behind the curtains if I let them.  But, I usually try to herd them out of the my room, and in to safer areas to destroy.

I haven’t completely finished up all the details, though.  I plan on adding a border along the bottom but I can wait to see the final look. I will post my own pics of them soon.

This post made me laugh! That was a fun day; sisters sewing, and that is a great machine you have there, the Husqvarna. That was the day I showed Little Girl how to thread a needle and she sewed her first little thing. If I remember correctly, it was to be a Barbie pillow? I loved doing that stuff when we were little. Thank you so much for mentioning my new blog at http://artoftheletter.blogspot.com

What a great idea! It sounds so cute and cozy. Where do you get the energy to do all that? Hiding in the curtains, those are memories that will stick with your little ones. I hope to see a pic of the borders.
